Book Title: Troll Swap
Author: Leigh Hodgkinson
Recommended Age: 3-7 years old
Themes: Being Yourself, Opposites (loud/quiet, clean/messy)
Summary:
In Troll Swap, Timothy Limpet and Tabitha Lampit are very different from the families that live amongst. Timothy is a neat and tidy in a world filled with belching, burping trolls. Tabitha is loud and brash in a world that would prefer her to be neat and tidy. Swapping with each other seems to be just the right solution to their woes. It is, for a while. Being easily accepted for who you are can be so BORING! These two characters reconsider their swap and find their way back to where they belong, even if they don't always fit in.
My Thoughts:
This book was humorous and silly. Thumbs up for that! I liked the side banter between the characters. The book was filled with color, fun, and a nice message about being who you are even if it's not the norm.
Books Alive:
Discuss and role-play opposites that can be found in the book.
- Loud and Quiet - this book has clear visuals about when a character is being loud or quiet. Children can practice talking very loudly and then talking very quietly. They could role-play the two main characters in the story and discuss how they are different.
Favorite:
I liked the conversation bubbles in this story. There are some great one liners.
